Do You Remember What America Post Office Was Like Before 1969?

It is peculiar how distinct occasions remain with you. Peculiar but clear. Everybody who was everywhere when Kennedy was killed, remembers what they definitely have been performing.I america POSTAL Business was created and recall after the postoffice was turned to the private-sector for administration clearly. A bronze medallion were struck by the USPS to commemorate the occasion. And, correct then and there, I ought to have skilled the factor that was decreasing the road. The USPS, which operates in debt and has significantly far more than its share of unhappy workers, has had its hands in a lot of every single non-postal cake going back 20 or 30 years.Whatever occurred to advertising shipping and delivering e mail? If you've experienced a post workplace, you have noticed all sorts of things, from framed football-player initial time cover letters to stuffed animals, from extravagant packaging to little fat machines, from pre-stamped paper to covers and packages of every single dimension and assortment. And whatis with all the totally free concern packaging and materials?

Do You Remember What The United States Post Office Was Like Before 1969?

My rant continues. Postal increases rise at alarming rates. What does the USPS do to attempt to get back in the black? Offers stuff away left and appropriate. Free of charge mail pick up from your house or enterprise. Go to www.usps.org to see all the free of charge supplies you can get, shipped to you cost-free. But still they can't compete with UPS and DHL and FedEx. I confess I when bought a Warner Brothers Tweety and Sylvester tie for a present. And I'm most likely not the only 1 who purchased a USPS item of clothes. But what on earth had been they thinking to have an apparel line? And stationery? And markers and tape and and ribbons and bows? I go to Target for that stuff, or the drug shop. And what are they carrying out promoting telephone cards? The USPS need to hand off all non-essential to carrying out business as a post workplace stuff to retail outlets. Possibly we could get anything at Wal-Mart not produced in China? And possibly mail prices could stabilize for a handful of years. What do you think?

Yep. I remember the scary-looking posters of the "Most Wanted" folks(not all males, either.) Now the walls are cluttered with a combination of stamp commemorations and packaging methods. The interesting part is how it doesn't really need to make a profit to continue to exist. danielpauldavis 53 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment. In those pre-ZIP Code days when you could mail a letter for 3 cents, the Post Office was apparently making money, or at the worst, breaking even. Kind of makes you wonder what happened, doesn't it? And, you could count on your letter getting delivered in a timely fashion as well. Not only that, you got to know your mailman(now called a letter carrier since we must by all means be politically correct!) because he'd deliver the mail to your door. Now, they ride around in their little truck and it seems like everyone has those rural-style mailboxes and they burn up a lot of gas. No wonder they're losing money hand over fist. And the self-adhesive stamps have to cost more to make than the old-fashioned kind you had to lick as well. Ah, the good old days!!

I heard(not verified) that they are tossing around the idea of stopping Saturday delivery to save money. My dad remembers when the mail was delivered twice a day!! I read recently(good source) that they are thinking of closing a number of branches throughout the country to save on costs. And my local postal employee has been telling me that the post office is self sufficient and doesn't rely on any tax dollars! Well, that doesn't mean much if you're operating in the RED, now does it!!
