Experimenting Doctors....Don t They Have A Heart???!

Postby achimelech51 » Fri Apr 01, 2011 7:30 pm

I just posted a discussion about my Auntie who passed away last night due to brain tumor. As found out, based on numerous tests and examinations, the tumor was malignant. It was discovered to have occupied the left part/ half of the brain. After a couple of weeks, the doctor told us that it has already occupied almost the whole brain, and was growing very quick. Though the whole family was hoping to come up with an option on how to extend my auntie's life, longer than one year given by the doctor, inside us we knew that she might not be able to make it or last for another month. That was sooooo painful. My auntie was sleeping most of the times. She was fed through the tube connected to her nose. She had difficulty breathing, and was having several infections and complications. At that stage, who would have thought that her team of doctors would suggest this: To submit her to an operation, open the brain, take a bit of her brain out, submit it to a biopsy, then proceed with the operation. Prepare almost half a million pesos just for the biopsy.... Then what????! My mom told us that these doctors were studying my aunt's case because it is a very strange, and a very different case of brain tumor. We were so angry. They wanted to study my aunt's brain, submit her weak body to a surgery; for them to come up with a research/study/experiment at my auntie and her family's expense?!!! Definitely, these doctors do not have a heart and conscience!

Experimenting Doctors....Don t They Have A Heart???!

That study could have been done after death. I agree, that is outrageous. Why do surgery in a case where all hope is lost? To prolong the life by taking out a major part of the tumor? And then what? It prolongs the suffering for the patient and might have made things worse for her. I'm glad to hear that your family decided against the procedure. Some doctors become robots in order to shut themselves out from the pain and suffering around them. They don't want the deaths get to them. For them patients become things. It's sad, but some do lose the human touch. Seems like your family encountered doctors like that.

Experimenting Doctors....Don t They Have A Heart???!

Hi jonesy. The family was against the procedure because we were already informed beforehand of her vague chance to live with or without the operation. The doctors even said that she can die during the procedure or last for merely a couple of days after the operation. Yes, all hopes were gone. Thus, the question why did they suggested that procedure when all hopes were gone. After the family had decided against the procedure these doctors recommended to just bring her home. Acceptance was the only thing needed at that time on the part of the family. And we all had accepted it. But we prefered that she stayed until her last breath in the hospital so that all the needed monitoring and care can be given to her at anytime.

Thank you narayan. I have known several medical malpractices where the victims were all hopeless and helpless. And that's really sad.

Experimenting Doctors....Don t They Have A Heart???!

The sad thing is we don't have a law in the Philippines to punish these kinds of practices. I had the same situation when my brother died because the doc made a mistake. You should sue the doctors atleast do something for her and for the future victims. Most of the people who are not rich were being victimized my these malpractices. We spend huge amount of money to prolong the lives of our love ones, just to serve as a study material for such incompetence.

There is a law that punishes medical malpractices. The saddest part is that many such cases filed in the court rarely succeeded due to the difficulty on the part of the victims to prove medical facts to which all doctors and medical organizations called for on the witness stand can easily connive on. There's no cause of action on my aunt's case as the procedure did not push through as the family was against it.

Hi Toni beta, thanks for this post. For doctors we are nothing but gunie pigs, they test all the new drugs, techniques on us. This is painfull but also justified, a drug tested on human can give the right information. I also honor your feelings. I work in some nursing homes and I am aware of the 'inner' things. Have faith in God and don't remain depressed beta. DR.SARAF

I and the family have already accepted even before hand that her case cannot be treated. We gave her up to the Lord thinking that somewhere she'll be free of pain.

Dear friend, I too had seen these types of expert doctors in our place in Indian hospitals and at last there will be bill for which all these are systematically shown. That for a head ache they take a test of head tumor or brain tumor and even other tests too and finally tells that we were making sure the patient do not go for much complications and finally they put a small tablets sometime and may be sometime they give another list of tablets and medicines and if that person is financially much weaker I hope their whole saving will be gone for such experiments and more than that their mental strain too. It is much seen in most of private hospitals and in government hospitals the situations are much worse than this.

I think there are some misunderstanding here. You see, since you auntie case is a special one, like what you mention. To find a cure for it, the doctors definitely have to remove part of the brain to do a study for it - in order to find a effective way to combat the cancer. If not, will you want them to operate directly on the head without any concrete study ?
