Family vacations without kids?

Postby baigh75 » Tue Apr 03, 2012 1:01 pm

I had a question. A year or so ago, my wife took a vacation with her parents for 3 weeks overseas. I could not do it myself because (a) I didn't feel it was fair to my kids, (b) I didn't feel it was fair to ask people to take of my kids for that long & (c) wasn't sure if I could co-exist with my in-laws for 3 whole weeks. My wife was again approached by her parents to go on another 2-3 week vacation, but this time stateside. I was a little upset that they even asked again. Does this seem normal or do you think my in-laws are getting into matters they shouldn't be?

Family vacations without kids?

If your in laws invited your whole family, including your children, that was a reasonable and very nice invitation. If three weeks in a row with your in laws is too much for you, you should plan day trips on your own or something. You don't say how old your kids are, but if they're anything under high school, a trip with the in laws is a reasonable request to make of your children even if they grumble a bit.

If your in laws did not invite the kids at all, that's kind of odd, and I think your wife could reasonably refuse such invitations, especially if they come every year.
