Getting People In Trouble At Work?

Postby ruddy » Mon Dec 19, 2011 1:17 pm

I have been looking online, but cannot find any employment laws regarding something being set up at your employment to get you into trouble. What I mean is, is it "legal" for an employer to purposely set up a situation in which to get you into trouble? Varying in situations. Some examples may be, purposely dirtying a bathroom to see if they will clean it. Moving or hiding an employees uniform so they're late punching in.

Also, do you know of any rules or laws regarding hair nets? From what I understand, in the province of Ontario, hair nets are NOT required, however, tying hair back and/or wearing a hat or visor is required. So, if you hire a male with longer shaggy hair, where it sticks out from under his hat, can you tell him that he has to wear a hairnet that he supplies himself? Or when you tell him he must wear a hairnet, do you have to supply it for him? This employee has been working for at the establishment for over 6 months.

Just questions I cannot find answers to online. Any helpful input is appreciated.

Getting People In Trouble At Work?

im pretty sure they can get in trouble if they hide your stuff or set you up. i think i read it at a poster in the backroom at my job! actually, it was a policy about harassment.... it stated that hiding of another employees posessions is against policy and is a form of harassment.

also, there should be a loss prevention hotline somewhere where you are employed (as long as it isnt a super small business) and i would call them, and ask them if they know a number where you can report being treated unfairly.

where i work there is a number you can call if your being treated unfairly, but im not sure if everyone is required to have one posted.

and as for the hairnet, it MAY be company policy, and it might not. try calling a district manager or asking for the company policy book or whatever you have. its probably not the law. i took a semester of cullinary and we were required to wear a hat, and have our hair up. no hairnet. guys shaved.

Maybe entrapment? I can not think of one right now. I would consult a lawyer.
