Help with Dell Inspiron?

Postby lamarr3 » Fri Apr 13, 2012 12:16 am

When I boot up my Dell Inspiron N5040 I get a black screen that says:
Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 083)
Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation
This product is covered by one or more of the following patents:
US5, 307, 459, US5, 732, 094, US6, 570, 884, US6, 115, 776 and US6, 327, 625
Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller Series v1.24 (10/07/10)

I just got the computer in December. I have tried pressing F8 to put it back to factory settings but that didn't work. The computer is set to boot from the hard drive first, with networking last.
Before I got this screen I had a virus (S.M.A.R.T HDD), but I got rid of it by restarting the computer from an earlier date. I had it on and off a few times before this screen showed up. Also, for a few days prior to the virus appearing the computer would randomly shut off and reboot itself, at the time I assumed it was just updating...
Please help! I have two essays due on Monday and the computer I'm using now doesn't have word on it :/

It sounds like you will need to reinstall the operating system, did you make any backups of the operating system or even have the original operating disc,if you have any of these then try them,if not then you can always go to the link below a\nd install the software(open office) on the computer you are using now, open office is the same as word,it also lets yous save your work in a word format so it can be opened on a computer that has word installed on it,oh and its free, you also get a powerpoint, excel etc equivalent aswell
