How much advance notice must a landlord give if she wants a tenant to move out of a rental home?

Our landlord decided to move into the unit herself. We haven't done anything wrong, like not pay our lease. We have been living here for ten years.
How much notice were we supposed to get by North Carolina law?

30 days, if there is no written lease in effect. this is one of the downsides of renting month-to-month. if the l/l wants you gone... you're gone. period.

It's the same for a female landlord as it is for a male landlord...which you already got some really good answer to!

Plus you couldn't be renting a place for 10 yrs as in another question you said you were 14!

a written 'notice to vacate' must be given to you

Do you have a lease? If you do, she needs to give you notice thirty days before the lease expires. If you have no lease, she has to give you thirty days notice anytime.

read the original lease. it isn't addressed, then 30 days.

HOWEVER!!! 30 day notice starts on the 1st day of the following month. So if you received notice after July 1. It starts on August 1 and you need to be out by August 30. YOU OWE UNTIL AUGUST 30. No matter what day you actually move out (which is up to you).

As long as rent is up to date you are entitled to a 30 day notice. if you owe rent a 3 day notice.

Your landlord has a right to terminate your tenancy if your lease has expired. She has to give you adequate notice according to N.C. law which you can look up.
