How to become a lawyer?

Postby hob97 » Thu Aug 02, 2012 3:16 am

Hello, I'm a 22 year old that graduated from college with a art degree. I've always been passionate about art but law (especially criminal law) has always intrigued me. I'm wondering what steps I could take to pursue becoming a criminal lawyer since I already have a bachelors degree in an unrelated field. And any thoughts/opinions about it also would be helpful.

Thanks!

Talk to a counselor at school about how you can go into pre-law or law school. I'm sure he could answer this question better than anyone on YA

How to become a lawyer?

Actually the "unrelated field" does not matter in the slightest. Law schools do not actually care what your undergraduate degree is; they do care a great deal that you did very well in whatever program you followed. Your next step is to write the LSAT test (just google it) and start applying to the Faculty of Law at which ever school(s) interests you. Good luck.

If you already have your bachelor degree you are in a good spot! To apply to Law School you need a bachelor degree from a accredited school. Your bachelor degree can be in anything, so even if it has nothing to do with law that doesn't matter. You will also need to take the LSAT (Law School Admission Test) before you can apply to law school. So since you have a bachelor degree your next step is to buy some study books, maybe enroll in a LSAT prep course and start studying for the LSAT so you can do really good on it. Once you take it you can start applying to law schools. Once you get into law school it will be 3 years of just studying legal/law stuff, then you will get your JD (Juris Doctorate). After law school you will need to take and pass the Bar Exam before you will be a practicing lawyer. Good Luck!

For you to become a lawyer, you have to study first and pass the board exam.
