I changed insurance company it lapsed over 30 days without notice?

at the DMV. I was unaware of the situation and I finally got a dumb az postcard that was given to me on the 7th of Febuary. Its now, March 9.. grr. So I ended up verifying my insurance online with the access code they gave me. I talked to my insurance agent and they said I would have to pay $250 fine for not verifying it earlier blah-blah lame law if you ask me. I seriosuly thought this was the new insurance agents job to handle it. Then to top it off late postcard. Where it was I dunno! OK, I verified it and the status now on DMV says

"RESULTED IN SANCTION - PENDING
Insurance Lapse: - 2011-12-19 to 2012-01-08 "

So my question after providing some information will I have to go to the DMV in person to pay for any fee. Or will I just get a bill by the mail or pay online? I ask cause the customer service by phone takes ages.. hope someone been through this or has knowledge on this. Don't want to head up to the DMV office for nothing if I already verified my insurance online via their postcard thingamagig. The question now is about the bill. $$ Thanks.
