"rock and rose" has some accurate and some not so accurate information in there for you.
Step 1: You will need to earn a bachelors degree (BA or BS) prior to enrolling in law school. This does not need to be done at the same school you want to go to law school at. Also, admissions for undergraduate (where you earn a bachelors degree) are separate from admissions to their law school. You can major in anything and go to law school. CJ is not a good degree to get however. First, law school is about 1% criminal law and 99% everything else. Second, it does little to develop your critical reading and writing skills which are most important for law school success. Law school admissions are based on your college GPA and LSAT score. The LSAT is an admissions test you will take during college.
Step 2: Get accepted to and attend an ABA approved law school. Law school is a 3 year program attending full time.
Step 3: Take and pass the bar exam in the state you wish to practice in. There is no mentoring required in any state, you pass the bar, you are a licensed attorney.
Word of caution. The legal job market is BAD BAD BAD right now. UNLV is not that great of a law school. You do not have to go to law school in the state you want to practice in. Unless you get into what is commonly referred to as the T14 (top 14 law schools) you will stand very little chance at getting any employment and law school is expensive, most people graduate with over 100,000 in student loan debt (only way to pay for law school is out of pocket, loans, or scholarships, no aid that you don't pay back)
