If I am only allowed a 6 ft fence...is adding soil beneath the fence to make it appear taller against the law?

Lets say I build up about half a foot to a foot of soil along my property line where I was building my fence. The fence itself was only 6 ft tall but because of the extra dirt it appears to be 7 ft tall...have I done anything wrong?

consult your local by laws. But, I say "**** em" build your goddamn fence as High as you want ain't nobody can stop you...( I personally don't agree with property ownership or fences, but if you do just run with it man. Give it all or nothin' at all!)

The half foot of soil you add around your property will technically be part of the fence.

Typically, the bylaws will refer to the height of a fence as measured from the prevailing height of land, not a man made mound.

As for the clown above who says 'nobody can stop you', you should be aware that yes, your local town or city government CAN make you take the fence down, and if you refuse, they will remove it and send you the bill.
