I'm 14, I live in Illinois, and was looking for a job. I got hired at a resturaunt as a hostess, not even selling the alcohol, but my school wouldn't give me a workers permit because apparently it's "illegal for anyone under 16 to work where alcohol is sold." Now, my friend lives about 25 minutes from me, he's also 14, and his school gave him a workers permit for getting a job at Walgreens, which sells both alcohol and cigarettes. This didn't seem right, so I did some investigating. I went to about 6 websites, including http://www.state.il.us/agency/idol/laws/LAW205.HTM which tells you what jobs aren't allowed (only hazardous jobs, such as quarry mining and roofing), and NONE of them said anything about it being illegal for me to work anywhere that alcohol is sold. I called the Child Labor Information number to ask, but it was after hours so I left a message. So, is my school full of **** or is it actually the law?
