Is this a criminal offence?

Postby devon » Mon Apr 09, 2012 1:49 am

most of you have probably heard of black berry messenger, which you need a 'pin' for, well is it against the law, to put someone elses pin on facebook, pretending to be that person?
recently i have had a number of messages on facebook from a girl, being sarcastic etc, i have not accepted this person on facebook, but when i looked on her wall, she has put a blackberry messenger pin as her status, telling her friends to add it, well its my blackberry messenger pin, is this classed as harassment? i believe the person doing this is a fake account.. if i contacted the police, would they be able to do anything about this?

Yes this is a criminal offence. It is called impersonating and could also be harrasment. You can definetly call the police and should do something about it.

Yes, it's a criminal offence. Think of it as a credit card and this girl has your info and blabs it on 6acebook it's fraud, unfortuneatly cops won't do anything first off if it's an fake account how would track the person all you can do is report this to Facebook & get the profile taken off for good.
