Junior operator speeding ticket appeal?

Postby wahchintonka48 » Thu Aug 02, 2012 6:42 am

Tonight I received a speeding ticket for doing 48 in a 30mph zone. While I have lived in the area my whole life, and the police officer marked "posted" (meaning the speed) on my ticket, I've often wondered about the speed limit on that particular road. Anyway, I was hoping I could at least find some ways to best appeal my ticket in court. My officer suggested this to me, actually, and said there was a chance I could keep my license (and not pay my $180 fine). Being a junior operator in the state of Massachusetts, I normally would loose my license until I'm 18. *sigh*

Junior operator speeding ticket appeal?

Admitting you did not know the limit could land you in more trouble still. Drivers are supposed to know these things and see the signs. If there really are no signs you might have grounds for appeal but I'd be surprised if that's the case. If you were doing 18mph over a 30 limit then your car speedo would be showing over 50. There are lots of people who would say driving at what looks like 50 to you in a 30 limit is a good reason for an 18 year old to lose their licence. If by any chance you do avoid this learn the lesson. Hitting a child at 50 will usually kill him or her. Hitting a child at 30 usually doesn't. 30 limits in residential areas are there for a reason.

You are accepting that you break the rule and take your speed over 30, to save your license all you need to pay $180 just pay it and have your license.
