Laws about school for minors. Please, Please help!!!!?

Postby joachim » Wed Jun 27, 2012 3:57 am

I live in Arizona, but my mom wants me to go to school In New mexico. Both my parents and I all are citizens of Arizona. My dad on the other hand does not want me going to New mexico for school. Is it even legal for my mom to send me to a public school in a different state were none of my family has state citizenship in?

There is nothing illegal - if there is no unpleasant relationship between Mom and Das, it is better to obey them.

Do your parents live in different states? I think the only legalities would be divorce and duking it out over custody when one parent does not want their child to leave the state. "Sending you off to NM" sounds like your parents are going to stay in AZ. Where will you be living? Is the education better in NM then your present school district? There are no state-to-state legal issues regarding "citizenship" for this sort of thing, I don't think. It's not like leaving the country. You would have to prove residency in NM if you were trying to get in-state tuition at a NM University, but that's about as far as that goes. If you have an address within the school district, that's your school. NM is beautiful and slightly cooler. You might like it. If you don't want to go, you need to have a good long discussion with the parents. Good luck!
