Motorcycle speeding ticket, 41 in a 25?

Postby merla15 » Thu May 24, 2012 3:16 pm

I was riding my 250 today and got a $195 ticket. I live in washington state and I am 17 years old. I took a left through a intersection and speed up to 41 in a 25 mph zone. Cop got the radar when I was behind her. She was a nice person, but still a cop. It sucks because I was 1 mph away from being like $60 less. My speedo on my bike is not right so I rarely look at it, could that help me reduce the ticket in court? How can I fight this?

Also, what should I tell my parents, any ideas? this is my first ticket and I get good grades haha. Im screwed! yaya!

Pay the fine and slow down!
The officer will go to court and tell the judge about her training and experience using the speed detection equipment. She will then explain to the judge the process she goes through each day to verify the calibration of the speed detection equipment.

When it's your turn, you will tell the judge you know your speedometer is no good and you rarely look at it.

The judge will then have to decide whose testimony is more credible.

Try to avoid court and apply for a driver improvement school.

By useing the excuse that your speedometer is wrong you could get another fine for operating a motor vehicle that you knew had a malfunction. They could tell you that you knew it was wrong and you took the risk now you have to pay for it.

Mitigate! If you go to the mitigation hearing your fine will be cut in half. You might even get it defered if the magistrate is in a good mood.

Having a broken speedometer likely won't help you.
