I've looked all over the internet to try and find some help with this but none of it seems to work!
When I plug in the hard drive the light comes on, it makes a noise and in the bar at the bottom it comes up with 'Safely Remove Hardware' so it's obviously being recognised by the computer, however it doesn't show up in My Computer along with my other USBs, drives etc.
If I go into 'Disk Management' it doesn't show up, however if I go into Device Manager I can find it under 'Universal Serial Bus controllers' > USB Mass Storage Device. Right-click to properties and it says that the device is working fine.

Any ideas??

It sound like the drive has likely failed. In device manager do you see the drive listed under disk drives? You could try a linux live cd such as gparted to see if it will read the drive but if not then the drive is toast. Good luck.

The hard drive inside it has failed. your computer is recognizing the electronics of the enclosure, but the hard drive is not operational. You see, an external hard drive is just a normal internal hard drive plugged into an enclosure with a circuitboard that allows it to operate as a USB device. Your computer is recognizing the enclosure (USB circuitboard), not the hard drive.

I think there is problem with your HDD so try to use it with some other pc and if same thing happens then its problem of HDD else u need to format or do virus check of your pc.

Your computer the external hardrive may have malfunctioned. Most likely the external hardrive. They malfunction alot, but this doesn't mean they're broken. Mine does that alot but it's not broken.

Have you tried using it on a different computer to see if the problem is with the hard drive or your computer?

Plug it into different USB ports, and that should help, otherwise idk.
