My mobile phone bill was £300, now debt collecters have inflated it to £1500 - what can I do?

I'm not sure what to do, I am now unemployed and cannot afford this massive inflation - are they allowed to do this?
What are my rights as a consumer - if any?

I'd happily start making payments of say £400 but the price hike seems entirely unjustified.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just keep your head in the sand while they take chunks out of your backside. it's worked so far, hasn't it?

You must have been ignoring this for MONTHS to have let it get that high.
Contact cccs to see what can be done at this late stage.

Rights? What have you been doing for the last six months - ignoring all their attempts to contact you? If you are happy to pay £400 why didn't you pay the £300 and avoid all this + the damage it will have done to your credit rating?

Talk to the CAB if you want to, but start paying it off or it'll continue to rise.

Get any old thing that is in your room / house and take a look and think Will I miss this any more? If the answer is no then I would get a whole load of stuff together and do a yard sale. Be sure that you are not going to sell your items that you are selling off too high as they may think 'that's to much for a second hand item'

Got any games that you used to play on that you don't play on any more? Got any games that you have completed from start to end? Sell them off at your yard sale as well, and see how that will come along, along with your other items that will no longer miss any more.

Do you like cooking? Maybe do some cakes or biscuits / cookies and do a bake sale. Maybe do some brownies as well if people don't like cakes or biscuits / cookies.

another with sh//t between the ears

you blame others for the mess you get yourself into

you get into debt and dont pay, it costs you far more than the original debt - have you got that?

Youve let it go on so long that its been put into the hands of debt collectors, debt collectors dont do their work for free, they can make a charge every time they try to get you to pay - have you got that?

the £300 has got to £1500 cos of debt collector fees (that aint due to inflation - its due to you not paying the bill)

If you had paid the debt when it was due it would not be £1500 now - have you got that?

So now brain of britain - who is to blame for this increase in debt?
the debt collectors for making a charge every time they tried to get you to pay the bill?
or - you for not paying the bill when asked?

your rights as a consumer? - you dont have any (cos you aint a consumer) - you failed to pay a bill

Who cares what you can afford, the next step for the debt collectors is to apply to the court for a ccj. THAT will cost you even more. THEN they can appoint bailiffs to take whatever you own to pay the bill. AND the bailiffs will add THEIR costs to YOUR bill

Your options
Offer to pay them 4 installments of £400 they will probably accept (you think paying in installments is free?)
Do nothing and then see your world REALLY fall apart.
