My WiFi on my laptop wont function correctly, I tried everything. Please help?

Postby tahmelapachme33 » Mon Jul 02, 2012 7:16 am

Ok my laptop the other day was working fine but yesterday I uninstalled a virus protection program from it because it expired. After doing the reset after uninstalltion thing, my laptop restarted and to my surprise the WiFi was disconnected.

I tried reconnecting it using the "refresh network list" and " View all Available wireless networks" buttons but neither is working. Like literally when I click them all that pops up is "windows cannot configure this wireless connection" blah blah blah, along with saying if I want it to be configured I have to go start the Wildest Zero Configuration (WZC) and the information to do so is in the Microsoft.com website.

I tried troubleshooting and diagnosing and it says Windows is not currently managing your wireless network. To diagnose this wireless connection Windows needs to be managing connection. If you are using a non-microsoft application to manage wireless networks, please refer to that application to troubleshooting the network problems". Is that my router? If so my Belkin router is working just fine, in fact I'm using the WiFi from my router right now to type this. And when I try and run repair and all I get is an explanation point saying " Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Connecting to the wireless network.

I did more digging by following the instructions to my computer how to manually fix the network (if possible) and right clicked My Computer, went to properties, then Hardware, followed by Device Manager; and found under network adapters the three files that had a explanation point on them, meaning something is wrong with them. They turned out to be parts of the Virus protection program I deleted left over. I tried to uninstall them but it keeps saying " Failed to uninstall the device. The device may be required to boot up the computer". But that can't be right if its just a part of my virus protection program left, right? To be exact one of them says WAN miniport (IP) - AVG miniport driver. The AVG is what virus protection program I was using. And I'm guessing when I uninstalled it it glitches somehow and now is overriding my basic wireless commands to the point my computer's basic commands is being overlapping or something.

That's just my theory anyway. Nonetheless, can anyone help me restore my WiFi on my computer?

Hmmm, your wireless card may have stopped working possibly.:/

There is one other thing though, and I know I went a little crazy over this once :P Some computers have a little switch on that allows you to instantly turn on or off the wifi. You may have accidentally hit it without knowing and flipped it off.

Sounds like a driver issue to me. The exclamations in device manager appear when that specific device is unable to function properly due to missing or incorrect drivers.

This is what I believe happened ..

When you install applications on a computer some of the applications share the same core system files. .DLL files for example. Therefore, the installation does not install it again it simply points to the core system file to enable the application to work properly.

I think when you uninstalled the anti-virus application you selected "yes" instead of "no to all" when promoted if you wanted to uninstall everything. This may have inadvertently deleted files required by your wi-fi app to function properly.

Since you selected "yes" .. Shared files were deleted in the process of uninstalling the antivirus software. That would explain the exclamation marks and the reason you may be unable to connect via wi-fi.

My suggestion is to run the system file checker for files that may have been deleted so that you can restore it with the OS disc if necessary.

Start, run --> SFC /SCANNOW

Press "enter" on keyboard and allow it to check.

If you are on Windows Vista or Windows 7 do as follows ..

Go to start menu and type in cmd ( don't hit enter on the keyboard )

Instead when you see cmd listed place your mouse pointer above it, right click on it and select run as administrator -- select yes to the prompt that comes up.

Once you do that you may run the

SFC /SCANNOW

within the command prompt terminal

---

Allow the scan to complete.

You can read about it here ..

In the meantime, go to start, run and type in msconfig

Go to the "startup" tab and uncheck all to prevent these from loading during bootup. It could be launching an application causing conflict with your wi-fi connection.

Select to restart later. When you restart later, just check mark the box that comes up on your desktop and close it out.

You may also have to install your wi-fi adapters software if any to get the drivers back.

Reboot and see what happens.
