News of Consumer Law

Im doing a project in economics and surveying consumers on what laws we need that we don't currently have to protect consumers.

Last year's winner was cell phone companies warning you when you are going to go over your texting limit.

I'm not so up to date with the news so can someone help me find a news story on a white collar crime, here's what it means:

Catch-all phrase for a variety of frauds, schemes, and commercial offenses by businesspersons, confidence men, and public officials. It includes a broad range of nonviolent offenses that have cheating as their central element. Consumer fraud, bribery, and stock manipulation are examples.

I know there are consumer debt laws that protect individuals, but I cannot find any reference to business debt laws. For instance, what the collections agencies are and are not allowed to do, etc.

I am leasing a new vehicle. The dealership I am leasing from requires the vehicle to be inspected before it is returned. Their own inspector found damage on my vehicle that had been painted over. I have never been in an accident or had any body work done to my vehicle, meaning this is previous damage that I was unaware of prior to me leasing it.

in the last 2 years I have found that companys are finding more ways to take financially advantage of people. Has anyone else been over billed?
Here in America I have noticed that every company that bills me (except same monthly charge types), landlord water/sewer over billing, bundled tv packages discounts that u have to go online to get and the india telemarketer does not tell you, newspapers that give u a 13 week deal ...

Prison sentences should be much stronger. Im sorry, parole after 8 years for someone who kills their parents is ridiculous.

If you take a look at the U.S history, the liberals always end up winning. Lincoln was a liberal who freed the slaves, liberals pushed for civil rights, women suffrage, environmental laws, consumer protection, healthcare, FDR's New Deal Act, ect...

Each one of those the conservatives were against and ended up losing , Why?

I usually see this sign posted in some of the malls and groceries and sometimes even printed on transaction slips or official receipts. In our country, this is against the law i.e. consumer rights, but still most of the stores do not abide by this. How can we, the consumers, be protected by unscrupulous businessowners?
