Oregon laws on rental property?

Postby bardoul » Sun Dec 18, 2011 7:57 am

i have been renting from a property management for 1 year now and just received a letter from a different property management that they have taken over our rental agreement and we will be going through them now ( this is still with the same landlord). I am told that we will have to fill out new applications for this new property management and do a walk through of our place with them. I had tried to rent through this new property management over a year ago and was denied because of credit and hope they aren't going to try to evict me because of this new change, i have great history with the old one.Does anyone have any expeirence with this?

They can not evict you while you have a lease. They can after your lease expires, but if you are paying your rent on time and not causing issues then the property owner would be most unhappy with them for evicting you. It is not very likely to happen.

They can't evict you. You have an existing lease that they have to honor. It is common practice that a new owner wants all info updated so this is just a standard procedure. Don't sweat it.

Your current lease is valid and you should provide normal information but I would strike the word "Application" from the form and change it to "Information Update." I would also strike through any wording that authorizes them to run a credit check and I would not sign it.

Mind you, this will not please them and you might not be offered a new lease, but be sure you pay the rent on time and you might be allowed to re-new.
