Rental house is infested with earwigs?

Postby rheged » Fri Mar 30, 2012 11:17 pm

We moved into a rental house 6 months ago. For the past month or so we have had an infestation of earwigs. They are everywhere and in every room! The rental office had an exterminator come out but he couldn't spray everywhere because we have babies and I'm pregnant. Then after that didn't help, they sprayed with a natural repellant for earwigs. That did nothing but smell up our home. I just went into our 9 month olds room that has our guest bed in there. I went in to change the sheets for company that is coming tomorrow and to my surprise, there were about 20 or more of those suckers in the sheets and under the mattress when I lifted it up. I am at the end of my rope. They need to get rid of these things, enough is enough. They crawl into the baby wipes, on our walls and ceiling. I found one crawling on my 9 month old a few weeks back. By law, isn't it the Landlords responsibility to rid of these pests ??? Do I need to take legal action?

Rental house is infested with earwigs?

I am just looking at your complaint. I suppose the Landlord is responsible for it

BUT Bear in mind, he will have to kick you out while they spray deadly toxic poisons about(and you probably cannot return for about 3 months as the toxins wear off and are aired out)
So you will have to find another place to live(and that is not the Landlords responsibility)
So that will put you in a bind.
Google it and you can find FAQ about Earwigs. I found it immediately.
As far as I can tell, if you have say a sand or cement strip that encircles the house they will not cross that barrier. Done.
But realize if you are out of the dwelling, he can rent it out to someone else.

Hi,

My name is Jessica and I deeply sympathise with this problem. I'm curretnly working on an Animal Planet series called 'Infested!' and would be interested in speaking with you as to how this problem was resolved.

We are currently looking or new stories for the upcoming series and I was wondering if this is something you may be interested in taking part in.

Please feel free to take a look at the following link to get an idea of what the show is about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5oIuMNO-Q8

If you have any questions or would just like to share your story please don't hesitate to get in touch.

I very much look forward to hearing from you.

All the best,

Jessica
