Should businesses that don't want concealed weapons carried on their premises?

Postby barnett » Tue Dec 13, 2011 8:22 am

post signs prohibiting the practice?

If a situation occurs where they DO have a sign posted and there is a shootout by a criminal, should people who were prohibited from carrying there, be allowed to sue the business for preventing law abiding citizens from defending themselves?

Personally, I think if they post a "No Guns" sign, that's it, period. Don't carry there. I won't carry into a business that has one of these signs. Private property rights, right?

Schools, doctor's offices, counseling agencies and banks tend to have no weapons policies. I don't think it is hurting anone.

Yes and they do.

-no since it is private property and it is there choice.

I just don't go into those places myself. The real problem is the federal laws that restrict concealed carry. Hospitals, bars, schools(grounds + 500ft), and churches.
I can't think of a more appropriate place to carry than those places. Laws don't keep criminals from bringing guns to those places, only people like me who obey the law.

It's private property. A property owner should be able to prevent people from bringing firearms onto the property. No, you shouldn't be able to sue in the case that there is a shootout by a criminal, because prohibiting firearms on your premises is not negligent.

So should you be able to sue if there is a shooting where there is "no sign" preventing carrying of a fire arm? Either way, isn't it the right of the property owner to post that sign?

Not sure I get your logic here... or if there is any "logic" to actually get.

I'm pretty sure that if a criminal was intent on conducting a "shootout" there that a sign wouldn't stop him.

Besides, if you do a good job concealing the weapon, how would they find out? Other than with your shoplifting.

you could in fact sue, but in cities where guns are prohibited in violation of the 2nd amendment should you be able to sue the city or state if your the victim of a crime involving a gun.

Just how often has this ever happened, other than on TV or in a movie? Let's deal with reality and leave fantasy to Hollywood.
