Do Juvenile Correction Officers in Georgia need a Concealed Weapons Permit to carry a concealed weapon?

Postby webb » Wed Mar 14, 2012 1:42 am

I was reading somewhere that a person in several law enforcement positions in the state of Georgia do not require a concealed weapon permit and that a Georgia Juvenile Corrections Officer was exempt from having to obtain one. I am trying to verify this. I am currently serving as a Georgia Juvenile Corrections Officer in Georgia. We cannot have a weapon in our possession on the Detention Center property, but off duty, we are allowed to carry a weapon for defensive purposes. Does anyone know what the law says for sure on this?

Hi,

Juvenile correctional officers are normally abled to keep their weapons concealed on the facility's premises, but considering that they are not police officer they do not have that right unfortunately, but it would be good to have some more protection from experienced handlers.
