Should I Hire An Attorney For Change Of Immigration Status From F-1 To Green Card?

  I am filing for Green Card(from F-1) and I don't want to go through an attorney unless I absolutely have to. Have you been through this? If so, what do you advice?

I tried many times to go around hiring an immigration attorney in London but unfortunately did not work. After that I just hand over the entire work to my employer. Things went ok, but a bit slow.
