Steve Jobs falsely credited with Wozniak's work?

Postby nickson » Wed Jun 20, 2012 5:20 am

While Steve Jobs was a great Businessman, he often gets depicted as being a legendary inventor of electronics. Anyone who has read his biography knows that he didn't have the technical expertise required to make any of his products, and yet most people are made to think that he invented all of Apple's products. (He gets patents by contributing to the idea of the product)

My question is, why is his name always associated with the Apple I and Apple II, when he had absolutely no contributions to the designing of and production of those computers (They were Wozniak's inventions)

e.g. "Before Steve Jobs came up with the iPhone or even the Apple II..." TheRegister.co.uk.

Steve Jobs falsely credited with Wozniak's work?

I hate this too! People say he was a "Software programmer" "visionary" "designer", but all he was was a CEO and a salesman! He never built or designed any computers, he never wrote any software! But while everybody knows Steve Jobs, only people who are into technology know Steve Wozniak, and, even more importantly, Dennis Ritchie, who died less than a week after, and was the inventor of C programming and Unix, which went on to power almost all popular operating systems we know today! The truth is, Steve Jobs didn't do anything much at Apple, but got so much credit!

Steve Jobs falsely credited with Wozniak's work?

I can vouch that this does happen. I took a class on religions of the far east; and I had to do a presentation about something religious. I chose to create my own religion (which correctly followed the guidelines for what constitutes a religion. Basically, the gods of my religion are those who have changed the world though science. Since I am a computer science major, I did part of my presentation on people like Ritchie, Wozniak, brian kernighan, and ken Thompson.

Anyway, my point is, no one had a clue who any of these people were. It isn't knowledge that is well known out side of the computer science field. It sucks but it does happen.

Personally, I respect Dennis Ritchie so much that i have been trying to find out where he was buried. It was a lifelong goal of mine to get my copy of the C programming language autographed by him, but it appears like this will only be a dream. I want to pay my respects and leave some roses on his grave, and perhaps even my first edition copy of the K&R book.
