Transferring a car as a gift?

Postby clem84 » Thu Feb 23, 2012 9:24 pm

My boyfriend wants to gift me his car. I know that gifting a car is pretty hassle-free between family members, and you just need to pay title transfer fees. However, laws differ for those who are not related. Does anyone know what should be done if a non-relative gifts a car? Also, his car is registered in Massachusetts. I would register it in Maryland. I would then only need to abide and do the entire transaction in MD, right? If yes, can I acquire the applications ahead of time and have them notarized while I am in MA, since he wont be back in MD until later? Sorry for all of the questions, but it is so difficult and time consuming to deal with the MVA directly. Thank you for any help!
