Veterinarian malpractice ?

Postby reuben29 » Sat Jul 14, 2012 8:01 pm

I signed my puppy Bentley on the Wellness plan at Banfield and it was a huge mistake since the Gresham hospital doesn't do their job correctly. First when I take him in, they don't do the full exam which is one of the things I've been paying for. I tell them every time to check his ears for a yeast infection because his ears smell like it, they tell me they're clean and fine, come to find out after taking him to a different vet he does have one after all. Then Bentley started acting sick last Monday, I took him Tuesday, they told me he seemed alittle dehydrated but he probably just ate something that didn't agree with him, gave him two shots for his puking and sent us on our way. He continued to not get better so I had my mother take him back Thursday and as a different vet at the Gresham Banfield checked him said he seemed to be fine and he might just be having problems with the heat or his teething. Well yesterday he started puking again so I had to leave work and take him back to Banfield and demand that something was seriously wrong with him and that they figure it out. After an exam they see hes extremely dehydrated and has lost a pound since Tuesday (back to what he was at 6 weeks, he's at 12 weeks now), they did a urine test and blood work, finding that he also has a bladder infection and low potassium. They also do an X-ray which shows something might be on his liver and tell me I need to take him to an overnight emergency vet to have overnight fluids and an ultrasound because Banfields isn't good enough, which the place they sent me can't even do an ultrasound until after the weekend. Maybe if they actually did their job they would have caught this seriousness at least by my second visit on Thursday because he did not become this dehydrated and sick over night, he has been miserable for almost a week but they don't listen! I tried to cancel my membership, but of course they just want their money and say make a complaint against the Banfield in Gresham. Excuse me, but I'm not going to pay for something that doesn't even help my puppy. Banfield has nothing to offer except taking my money and sending me to a different vet that can actually take care of my puppy. Can anyone give me some tips on what further action I could take? I'm thinking reporting and getting an attorney.

I'd talk to a lawyer about cancelling the insurance. I've never really heard much good things out of Banfield. I won't use them - don't like their "practices" at all.

I am sorry to hear you dog has been given such bad treatment, but had you not been so cheap and taken your dog to a real certified vet he would not have been this sick.
Banfield so called vets are butchers that can't get certified any where else to work.
I seriously doubt if they even are really vets but maybe vet school drop outs.
Please take this poor little dog to a different vet and make sure he comes highly recommended by some one.

I do not know where Banfield is, but I have seen several complaints, over the years.

i am sorry your puppy is sick and i hope he gets better soon ... that is very maddening ... but i will tell you suing vets is like suing cops, you will never win ... and i don't know if you knew this beforehand but banfield is the walmart of vet care and the old saying "you get what you pay for" is very true ... and combined with the fact banfield is part of petsmart, a large company, your best bet would be to find a quality vet and get your puppy better and forget about banfield, chalk it up to a mistake you will never make again ...
