I never consider much of it.... What a swell guy. This is no spur-of-the-moment "state of emergency" he's got going on. There's been some time spent producing up lists of everyone they never like, or who doesn't like them, or who may not like them at some point in the future. That took some thought and preparing. I hear they started knocking on doors around Lahore about the time Musharraf was on national Television last evening explaining that unfortunately he was getting forced to take these actions to "combat terrorism and extremism." Some politicians like Imran Khan who opposed Musharraf in the current presidential elections(in which he was not, legally, entitled to run, but that's just a technicality of course) have been placed beneath property arrest and informed this will be in effect for 90 days. Some have just been dragged down to the regional pokey. Some, like former PM Bhutto, are becoming watched like hawks but have nevertheless been allowed their "freedom," such as it is. The press has been told in no uncertain terms that any media outlet which reports something detrimental to "the ideology of Pakistan or the integrity of Pakistan"(which probably signifies "not good to Musharraf") will have its assets seized and its personnel arrested. This has already happened to at least a single Tv network, AAJ-Television, whose broadcast gear was seized yesterday. And now--what a surprise--Mussharaf's government has announced that the parliamentary elections scheduled for January will be postponed "indefinitely." That pesky democracy. Just when you believe you have got it on track, somebody decides to run against you in an election, or a newspaper prints "damaging news" about you, which hurts you and the country you're trying to control. You have got individuals marching in the streets due to the fact they don't like the country who's propping you up, and you've got other men and women marching in the streets since they don't like the garments you wear to work when you're attempting to play Initial Citizen-Soldier. America is yammering in a single ear about how important free of charge elections are, and in the other ear they are whispering that you need to have to crack down on those crazy Islamic militants who've been running wild in the tribal locations of the nation. What's a poor dictator to do, anyway? Musharraf clearly has decided that the 1st order of enterprise is to insure his personal job. Almost everything else can, and apparently will, wait. roseredcity's Recommendations Pakistan's Drift Into Extremism: Allah, then Army, adn America's War Terror Amazon List Price: $25.95 Used from: $19.68 Average Buyer Rating: four.5 out of five(primarily based on 7 reviews) In the Line of Fire: A Memoir Amazon List Cost: $28.00 Employed from: $2.05 Typical Client Rating: 3.5 out of 5(primarily based on 131 testimonials) Crude Politics : How Bush's Oil Cronies Hijacked the War on Terrorism Amazon List Cost: $24.99 Utilized from: $.01 Average Buyer Rating: four. out of five(primarily based on 7 reviews) roseredcity 75 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment.
