I'm not quite sure what it means when people talk about GBH and what is actually classed as GBH. Is the punishment really as bad as they say?

In terms of English criminal law, it means Grievous Bodily Harm. It is a very serious charge.

This link provides some more information:

GBH means grievous bodily harm - or serious assult as its sometimes known. depending on the circumstances surrounding the incident but its basically a charge against someone whos really hurt someone with force. you can get a prison sentence for GBH but like i said it depends on the circumstances
