What does this Healthcare Reform really mean?

Postby gabrielo19 » Mon Oct 31, 2011 12:29 pm

Will this bill just clog this system, how does it affect people who already have insurance, how does it affect future doctors, how is this supposed to help make insurance affordable, and how on earth is adding millions of new patients to an already strained medical system supposed to improve the quality of healthcare received? Furthermore, I heard that doctors salaries would be decreased as a result of this, is this true?

I think health insurance is pretty fair and competitive enough as it is. I mean I have a Rheumatoid Arthritis and need to give myself shots once a week which cost $1,500 a shot and I only have a $9 copay on that and it is just basic military insurance. Tri-Care prime...(they're a pain to deal with but they pay nearly everything)..It would seem Drug companies and Malpractice lawsuits (which i think should be outlawed except for when someone majorly botches something, people should assume theres an element of risk involved in medicine.) Theres no discouragement from suing so malpractice is basically a lottery, I know doctors who pay half their salary just for malpractice insurance...Also, I think emergency healthcare is a right but basic healthcare is a privilege. It would be nice if all 300million Americans had it but that just isn't realistic. As for pay, doctors go to college and internships for 12-20+ years depending on what field they're in. They don't get paid nearly enough money for what they put into it as it is already. Sorry this is so long and please try to stick to the facts as much as possible. Thanks for your input.

it's going to result in higher taxes for everyone, longer waiting lines and lower quality care as more drs. leave the field who never decide to enter it in the first place. i'm not convinced you can add 30 million people and lower costs much less improve care. if there is massive medicare fraud as claimed that could have been solved without a massive bill. tort reform should've been addressed in this bill as opposed to addressing education as part of the bill. increased competition across state lines is another thing that should've been addressed. the only model that can be pointed to is mass. where insurance rates are among the highest in the country and without govt. assistance would've put the state in bankruptcy. and this congress decides to implement this great plan on the entire country? shocking to say the least.

You are lucky have military insurance.

Otherwise, you could be on your own with those $1500 shots if you ever had to change jobs or insurance companies.

You need to educate yourself about this bill. Much of what you are presuming is incorrect.
