What happens if you are caught drinking coffee/tea at BYU?

Postby artek57 » Sat Jun 16, 2012 12:42 am

I was wondering if they enforce it as strictly as they do on alcohol and premarital sex, etc?? Let's say a non-mormon student was walking on campus holding a Starbucks drink he bought off campus, will he face serious disciplinary action and/or expulsion? Or would they just give him a simple warning?? My question is does BYU ban so-called "hot drinks" COMPLETELY from their campus the same way hard drugs is banned from a regular public high school? I was just wondering if someone can enjoy their cappuccino on their way to class like at other campuses around the country if they keep it to themselves and are not promoting their habit to others?

You're restricted to quarters and can no longer attend the female diving try-outs.

Here, straight from the school itself:

I lived in Provo for a while as a non-mormon. The situation there is actually hilarious -- there are tons of known "hideouts" where BYU students (nearly all mormons, though a few weren't) go to drink, smoke, party, and fool around. They're carefully monitored to not let known "snitches" in. It's a whole industry!

Peace.

Chad Hardy produced a calendar showing shirtless returned male missionaries. Although he had completed all his BYU coursework and even walked down the aisle at graduation, the LDS church excommunicated him and refuses still to give him a diploma or transcripts.

They take their obedience and control very seriously in Utah.

There is an honor code and it is enforced just like every other private university in the country.

If you want to enjoy your cappuccino on the way to class you have no right to be there. And you may think it is stupid but it the rules. There are people with good grades who want to be there and want to obey the rules and some of them didn't get the opportunity because some douche bag who doesn't deserve to be there took their spot.

Chad Hardy knew the honor code before day 1.

Yes. If you read the BYU Honor Code, coffee is listed in the same section as illegal drugs. They are mentioned in the same sentence when it says that "Using or participating in activities where alcohol, tobacco, coffee or tea are in use is grounds for immediate dismissal."

If they believe that a cup of coffee separates you from God's love, then it's not that big of a leap to say that you can be expelled for it.
