What happens if you don't pay your traffic ticket?

Yesterday I received a second notice (it's my wife's ticket). The due date is tomorrow and they close at 3pm, so I can't call right now. I can't get extra time either. My wife is admitted at the hospital and I don't know what to do. I have never dealt with anything like this.

You should be able to call or go in-line in most cities/counties and state's so you can try and pay that way. If not her fine could almost double in some case's. If she is in the hospital though they might let the extra penalties slide if you bring the paperwork
