Basically, I am a 15 year old boy living in England and I am interested in Law as a potential career for me in the future. Specifically criminal law, and I would like to become a Barrister.
My Question - What is life like working as a barrister? How long do you have to train for? What are the best chambers? What are working hours like? How does family life fit around it? What is salary like? Etc....
My aim is to study criminal law at Oxford, and I would really appreciate your help in this matter.
Thanks in Advance.
I am an adult living in the Real World.
I'm going to tell you a big, shocking SECRET that none of your teachers, coaches or advisers will tell you.
Ready?
After a year or two in any profession or occupation, the WHAT of what you are doing to earn a living won't make any difference.
I know. You don't believe me. Okay, fine, don't believe me.
After a year or two in any profession or occupation, ALL that will matter is your R.O.I. What's R.O.I.?
R.O.I. is a term from the world of banking and investment. It stands for Return on Investment.
Effort at your job is your "I," your "Investment." What you get paid per hour is your "R," your "Return."
It is the ratio between the "I" and the "R" that will matter to you, plus the total "R" per year.
Whether you are working with the law, with a shovel, with animals, with children, with mathematics, etc,,,,NONE of that will matter to you.
Read the book "Rich Dad, Poor Dad," to get more on this. Or talk to any really honest, smart person in the real world.
Some exceptions: Religious missionaries, and some social workers and public school teachers. Their mission is not about R.O.I. in the usual sense. They are trying to save souls or society or both.
You can't thank me now. But delve into this. You will thank me later.
Best wishes to ya.
