What law school will serve you better if you want to work on Wall Street?

I was just wondering, if you have designs on becoming a corporate lawyer at a firm like Goldman Sachs in NY. Which of these two law schools would serve you better?

Columbia or Duke Law?

Columbia. Proximity is beneficial in law. You will learn more about New York law, have an easier time passing the New York bar exam (though if you go to Duke, you'll pass whatever bar exam you set your mind to), make more contacts in New York, and be able to do externships and other programs in New York finance law during the semester.

Both are top law schools. If you get in to either, you'll do well. You may or may not get any particular job, but you'll do well. But if you want to work in a particular place, if choosing between comparable law schools, you're better off with the one that is located where you want to work.

Easy one.

Columbia, no question. It's only behind Yale, Stanford and Harvard. Add in where Columbia Law's located and you've got even more of an advantage due to connections professors will have with colleagues.

Of course, it's a tier 1 school, so....If you even want a shot at getting in, you're going to have to ace the LSAT and have stellar recommendations/references along with a 3.7 GPA at a minimum.

I'd say Columbia or Penn...

For all its pretense of being a "global" city, Manhattan still has a highly "country club" mentality... All the guys I knew on Wall Street pretty much knew each other since their "frat-boy" days.

Now I did meet guys from Duke, Rice, Northwestern, etc....but if you're just getting started and want connections, Ivy alums still dominate lower Manhattan
