What police officer write you a traffic ticket and put on wrong year?

Postby bardoul » Tue Mar 06, 2012 2:16 am

yes, i was pulled over on 2/25/12, went the police officer wrote me the traffic ticket. He put 2/25/11. Now on back of the ticket. I have 14 days to answer to plead guilty or not guilty. Anyhow, any explanation will be helpful on me. I will try to plead not guilty. And i have a clean records over 10 years. Since this is my first time running a red light and it can cost a lot of money which is i do not have, 3 point on you driver license. I think it stayed on your record for 3 years. Your insurance will increase $300 an year.

Uh believe it or not not every insurance company will raise your rates. A lot of companies will "forgive " for first offences. Progressive and geico are 2 examples.

As for them putting the wrong year- you have the legal right to contact that officer in writing or in person and try to change his mind about the ticket, and a court will understand if a wrong year was written its an easy mistake.

Depends on your state. But, I'd just show up.

Chances are the cop isn't going to show and they'll have to dismiss it.

If that is all you have to go on you will lose in court.
A minor mistake means nothing. Al that has to be done in court is the prosecutor asks that the complaint (the ticket) be amended. Done all the time. You not only lose but have the chance of getting the judge to fine you more (what is on the ticket is the minimum the legislature authorizes) and court costs.
Go for the school if it is offered no matter how much it costs.
It will be less than the rise in insurance.
While the points may disappear as far as insurance goes they usually use the info in figuring your rates.
A record with your DMV will always remain.

this would be a good chance to fight the ticket. obviously the ticket is improperly written and is not worth a damn thing. Use this to your advantage. He can't say oh my bad days later and re write the ticket. also call the station and tell them what happened and the officer should get a nice tongue lashing.

Yeah, and some people still are writing 2011 on their checks as well. With any luck, they actually entered 2011 into the system, and now you have an arrest warrant for a traffic ticket that's more than a year old. You'd better get this thing fixed pronto.

Also, your spelling and grammar are horrible. Learn to write proper English.
