What's The Absolute Most Extravagant Suit You've Heard Of?

Postby moketaveto » Fri Jan 03, 2014 10:28 pm

Anything is legally incorrect with a culture that 'benefits' it is 'victims' regardless of their own ineptitude. Sufferers who make funds from situations they created. Conditions that usually correlate with ignorance, crime and/ or both. There are too many cases to website but there's no questioning the incomprehensible conduct of insurance coverage providers who disregard the appeals of these who naturally demand payment......believe Hurricane Katrina! The only path I will justify these reprehensible acts of unfairness is that, possibly specific 'acts of stupidity' are rewarded(a payoff?) to set precedence for a law denying any added litigation for that particular act?! Regardless, there are lots of circumstances. What could you develop?

What Is The Most Outlandish Lawsuit You've Ever Heard Of?

For not getting lights!  He said the reality that this expert sports group did not have lights, lowered the value of his property, which was near that stadium.    The other one, which I envision a lot of have heard of is the individual who sued McDonalds when they burned themselves with coffee.  I think this person in fact won, but I do not keep in mind the particulars.

What Is The Most Outlandish Lawsuit You've Ever Heard Of?

Postby Tannere » Tue Jan 21, 2014 12:10 am

I mean, $54 million? Please. Now, I know someone is going to say the McDonald's woman who spilled coffee on herself, but that was a very valid case. McDonald's knew that serving coffee at 190 degrees caused burns. That the way they served coffee kept the coffee at scalding temperature for nearly 20 minutes. There had been several warnings given and disregarded. There had been other lawsuits settled on this same issue. And through all of that, McD refused to change how they do things.  The actual damages were based on the medical bills, but the balance was issued as punitive damages to force McDonald's out of a dangerous practice.

What Is The Most Outlandish Lawsuit You've Ever Heard Of?

Best Lawsuits EVER(Only in New Orleans!) Okay, so I had the pleasure and joy to be living in New Orleans during this very special part of history.  I?m going to do this from memory, then run out to the Internet and try and collect a few links for if you want to read up on it more.  I think the "from memory" version will most likely be a bit off, but catch the hilarity in a way a news article MIGHT not. (It was pretty hilarious - it would be hard to totally miss no matter how proper and stuffy the writing.) The characters:  Anne Rice, local vampire author and Al Copeland, local restaurateur.  Both characters are these somewhat larger than life people who are, I feel, fairly well known.  Anne Rice has written a ton of books including Interview with a Vampire and Al Copeland was the person behind Popeye?s and Al Copeland?s Cheesecake Bistro(the name part is usually really small, it is generally called Cheesecake Bistro).  The action: Al Copeland legally bought an old, closed down car dealership to turn into a Strayas(one of his restaurants).  Anne Rice didn?t like that - she was attached to the car dealership.  It was the location of an important plot point with Lestat, one of her characters.  The escalation: Anne Rice tried to rally support against Copeland and his restaurant.  She took out a full page ad in the newspaper hating on him and it and everything.  He returned the favor.  They went at it for a while, culminating with a series of lawsuits and counter-suits against each other for defamation and, essentially, because Copeland had destroyed this Lestat Landmark. The end result:  A lot of people made fun of them, Strayas got some great publicity, the legal system got a little sadder, the lawsuits were dismissed, and holy crap, we had some great entertainment for a while there.  A link to a lawsuit announcement: http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/subjects/s/suits_and_litigation/index.html?query=COPELAND,%20AL&field=per&match=exact http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/r/anne_rice/index.html?s=closest&&query=STRAYA+GRAND+CAFE&field=org&match=exact And the Time Magazine article on it: http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,986062,00.html?iid=chix-sphere Here?s another good one: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m3190/is_n8_v31/ai_19153105 EmpressPixie 74 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment. What Is The Most Outlandish Lawsuit You've Ever Heard Of?

Postby Deortun » Mon Feb 10, 2014 5:41 pm

Maybe not the MOST outlandish... but its a recent one that jumped to mind. Police officer sues family after saving their 1-yr old baby. Their baby falls into the pool, the parents find him floating and unresponsive, they drag him out and bring him into the house and call 911. The responding officer slips in a puddle inside the house and wrenches her knee, but still manages to resuscitate their baby boy. The boy suffered severe brain damage, and is cared for at a nursing home right now. The police officer claims that the house was hazardous and they should have wiped up the water around their dead/dying baby boy before asking a government officer to enter their home. In fact she says that the family are "just acting like victims". Lady, you'd be a hero if you weren't such an a**hole. GeminiWench 74 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment. The woman who sued for carpel tunnel syndrom for masturbating while delivering phone sex....... A man kept calling the sex hot line and the woman kept masturbating while talking to him and then turned around and sued him for causing her to have carpel tunnel syndrome...........oh, so ridiculous.  This is the most outlandish one I've heard about. divafluff 74 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment. What Is The Most Outlandish Lawsuit You've Ever Heard Of?

Postby taillefer » Wed Feb 26, 2014 10:06 pm

When I was in college years ago, I was in a business law class, I read of a man who sued the Chicago Cubs baseball team For not having lights!  He said the fact that this professional sports team did not have lights, lowered the value of his property, which was near that stadium.    The other one, which I imagine many have heard of is the person who sued McDonalds when they burned themselves with coffee.  I believe this person actually won, but I don't remember the details.
