What's the name of this non-fiction book?

Its about Latinos in New York (either Brooklyn or the Bronx). A girl is pregnant and her boyfriend is a drug dealer. He gets sent to prison (eventually ends up in Sing Sing Prison) and she meets another drug dealer and I believe he's rich. I know she ends up moving into a home after trying to live with her mother or her mother-in-laws. If I'm not mistaken the author is a woman.
