What should I do after college?

Postby bercnan72 » Thu Dec 22, 2011 10:15 am

In May, I will be graduating college a year early with degrees in political science and philosophy. I was originally planning on going straight to law school, but I spent too much time procrastinating on law school applications, and now it seems too late to apply for Fall '12. My plan is to take a year off and apply for Fall '13 law school admission, but I am not sure what I should do for my year off. I have two options right now:
1. move in with my parents and try to find an internship
2. stay an extra semester to study abroad, get two minors (international studies, Chinese)

I would love to do #2, but money is tight, and I'm not sure if the extra semester of tuition to obtain the two minors would actually end up benefiting me. Finding an internship might be difficult for me, because I attend an out of state school and their career services don't have the resources to place me with an internship in my home state. I guess my question is: Is it worth the tuition to get two minors/will it give my law school applications/resumes any benefit whatsoever?

Ironically we almost have similar questions...

I say take a year off and move in with your parents and find a PAID internship. This way you will be earning money and gaining valuable experience. Study abroad seems nice, but it's also expensive (money is tight for you anyway).

As for the minors, you don't really need them. You will not be a strong applicant to law school with two minors..the goal is to have good grades in your undergrad major, have a high test score for law school, and also make sure you have volunteer experience!! That really matters so the internship will be a plus for law school. You are on the right track, have patience...

Answer my question please?? thanks :)

Please think about it thoroughly, that will be a biggest decision that you will ever make in your career. If you feel that the second option is the right thing to do then go for it. Take the risk to pursue your career path.
