the law be changed to exclude medical bills from bankruptcy, just like student loans?

Making the system fairer for everyone.......well, everyone who can afford to be sick.

Agree? or Agree Strongly??

Education and health care should be rights for every American because we are a rich country and we used to have a social contract. We provide for you and you provide for us.

There is plenty of work. The problem is paid work. There isn't enough. No new opportunities can be created if too many are mired in poverty. The poorest are the sickest. It's a vicious cycle. The poorest have many battles to fight so education is difficult.

Some students don't have a choice but to drop out of school because they have to work to support their families. I did not know this. I am appalled. I believe in education and don't think anyone should be sick without help. It's unacceptable that someone dies from a tooth infection. It happened.

Social Contract.

There are plenty of people that are money hoarders. They sit around complaining while they do absolutely nothing while also stealing. I've seen it myself. They lecture others. Brilliant. Hypocrites. Jerks.

Lung cancer is the #1 illness associated with medical bankruptcies. I know of someone that recently died from it after 2 years. Non-smoker. Worked up until he couldn't. He was fairly young.

Anyone could have a tragedy happen. We all need health care. We all have obligations. Welcome to life. Let's make it a good life for most because we can. It's a choice. We have to accept responsibility and not just for ourselves which is stupid and short-sighted.

Also people are paying more and more for health insurance while getting less and less - we are at a point where many can't even use what they are paying for. It's too expensive. We need to continue on this path? It's not going to change itself!

Well the statistic you fail to mention out of that is that 3/4 of those with medical bankruptcies HAD medical insurance.

Yes, the laws need to be changed. Your idea of fairer to everyone is not what most other advanced countries have done, but it is a possibility. We could also open some of our rusting factories to house those who cannot afford to be sick and bury them out back, and hoist a sign in the front, "Arbeit Macht Frei". There are many approaches. Perhaps we should open a forum to discuss them.

I will have to answer, "Disagree"

They should be included, Hospitals say they are non profit but go in one for 3 days for minor surgery and you have a $50,000 bill. We need health care to cover every citizen in the US and we can do it if we stop getting involved in Wars which is none of our business. The cost so far for the 2 Wars is 1.2 Trillion that would of paid for our health care. We dont need a Obama Care or Romey Care where some are covered, some has to pay and some dont etc. Its should be one policy

The health care system is screwed here in the U.S.
I got charged $1,100 for 11 stitches. $100 a stitch... ridiculous and shameful.
Insurance companies want me to pay over $500 a month for health insurance and if I ever get hurt really bad I'll be cast to the financial wolves just like so many people I've known.
So, who is cheating who?

let me just say this.

it is a sin, in the eyes of god, to allow people to go bankrupt simply because they couldnt afford medical bills.

Is it too much to ask for a link to your statistic, or for posing your question in fewer than 30 words?
