I was employed full time with a non-school company for 3 years and was laid off due to the economy back in July 2011. At the same time I worked part time as a substitute teacher (2-3 days a month) with a sub-contractor (not a school district) until June 2011 and returned back after Labor Day 2011. I was eligible to receive benefits during this time and did so. When my benefit year ended June 19, 2012, I was told to re-file a new claim and I did that on that same day on June 19, 2012. Since then, I have not received any reasonable assurance (written or verbal) that I would return to the substitute teaching job and the non-school company. I filed unemployment 6 weeks ago and have not received a dime although I did get my handbook and award letter of how much I’d receive and the amount of weeks I was entitled to. I have been calling the agency continuously and they keep telling me because the law changed in MI it’s still under investigation and they are determining my eligibility. I was told to keep certifying every 2 weeks and when a determination is made my funds will be released. Can someone who is familiar with this new law please tell me if I might qualify. It’s become a frustrating process and the only answer I keep getting from these annoying reps is "oh we don’t know why the process is taking long but keep certifying". What kinda answer is that? Do these people know anything?!
