Daughter-in-law is in labor and the hospital won't admit her yet?

Postby porter » Thu Aug 02, 2012 9:18 pm

My son took her into the hospital this morning around 8:00 because she was in terrible pain. They decided that she wasn't dilated far enough and her contractions were still to far apart. Now they are at my house and she is in excruciating pain. She is crying and she is begging for drugs to take for the pain. She has been sitting on the toilet for about 30 minutes and I am trying to get her to change positions so she doesn't get the urge to bare down. What are some things we can do to comfort her a bit? How do I get her to change positions? Which positions are best?

When i was in labour first time around, i wasnt admitted to the hospital for 28 hours, i found that a warm bath helped. Also i swayed from side to side or bounced lightly on a excercise ball (though with support so i didnt fall off). Slow walking sometimes helps. If she is struggling even more keep hastling the hospital they may bring her in and help her with pain relief if she can no longer handle it. Most hospitals now wont admit anyone until 4cm dialated. Also paracetamol can help and a hot water bottle was a life saver for me.Goodluck

Have her sit in a bath that can help. If she doesnt want a bath have her take a shower with ur son(have him in there for safety), to get her to change positions grab her arm help her up tell her u dnt wanna have ur baby in toilet, best position will differ ask her wat one she wants to be in, if shes really in so much pain take her back to er and tell them shes not leaving

Most doctors want the contractions atleast five minutes apart and dialation to be atleast 4 centimeteters,,,Try rubbing her back if she'll allow it,,,maybe talk her through the contractions,,,,, have her lay on her right side and left side,,, unfortanetly there's not a whole lot that you can do for the pain,,,,,by sitting on the toilet she is giving the baby room to move down and the pressure from the baby should help he dialate more,,,,,if it gets too bad take her back to the hospital,,,,she could be farther along now

My mother went through the same when she delivered my brother (it was her 5th) son
so she knew what it was and the hospital kept telling her to go home
she called her ob/gyn and told him she was in pain and felt she was dialating but the hospital wont admit her in
her ob/gyn got really mad and told her to pick up a form at his office as a referral to admit her asap

i recommend do not give her any pain killers
call her ob/gyn for a referral to the hospital
thats the only way they will pay attention and get her the best medical treatment

god bless your family
good luck
