Does one need to pay federal or state taxes on money received as a result of a class action lawsuit where the claim is for statutory damages, for violations of patients rights, for the year 2011?

settlements in relation to the earning of income, or restoration to more or less previous condition are not taxable
violations would be taxable and not sure what you mean by statutory damages, doesn't sound like actual damages
