I have a ten volume, 2,100 page journal of my life from the time I divorced and went to graduate school in 1986 to the beginning of my job at a second University in Georgia in 1987. It is written in very small longhand on thick blank-page journals. It not only contains my daily thoughts but also photographs, greeting cards, nostalgic cards, newspaper notices and other items. Many pages are filled with sketches from these years, including my encounters with many people and every place I lived. In addition there is an extensive dream diary included. I once turned the first volume over to a colleague that taught and published in aspects of the family and she told me that it was publishable as an account of the someone coming to terms with the loss of a relationship and all the changes from completely changing their life and career. My problem is that I am getting older and at some point, these journals are going to fall into other hands. They are completely unabashed and candid. What to do? I have thought of scanning them in and keeping a selection of the pages but it would be a monumental task and I am just not up to it at the moment.
