Ebay collection fee and collection agency?

Postby dacy17 » Thu Dec 22, 2011 6:03 am

Hello guys,

I sold an item on ebay and the buyer claimed that it has not received it. the buyer esclated the case to ebay and while that was done i showed a proof of postage to them plus explaining that the buyer was in breach of his contract because on my listing i mentioned that I only sell it to UK bidder while he was from europe and has a uk address which was redirected to there

so to cut a long story i provided a proof of postage but ebay didn't accept it as it was not a recorded mail. now

They refunded the buyer and are now forcing me to pay them by threatining to suspend my account and if not paid, then pass my details to collection agenecy whereby extra charges applies.

I really don't want to pay that money because I have sent an item for free. if i don't pay them, what are the rules and laws in the UK, can they get me into trouble, how does the collection agencies work

Ebay collection fee and collection agency?

Hello, i had a similar exp with them.. I sold a genuine item and they claimed it was fake even when i had proof of purchase from a main retailer.... and because i didn't respond to this immediately they refunded the buyer for over 150 pounds and i didn't even get the product i sold them back :/ then a few weeks later a agency from paypal started contacting me saying i owe all this money for fees and the refund of product etc. .. its a joke however i have refused to pay them and there is nothing they can do.. it has been over a year now.. and they have given up... legally you dont enter a legal contract so none of there debts can go against you.. and will not affect your credit score...

The worst that is going to happen, if you don't pay Ebay, is the will suspended your account until you pay them. depending on how much we are talking here? i doubt they will get debt collectors onto you. I had an account suspended because i refused to pay them, my story was similar to yours. I owed them £15, all i did was refuse to pay and i lost my account. So don't panic, just keep fighting it!

If your loss is less than £30 I would suggest you take it on the chin. Not what you wanted to hear, I know. Also you need to pay eBay what they say you owe them, they’ll bully you with a debt recovery agency and follow it up.

I had a situation where I owed the £14 and forgot to pay (honest mistake, I stopped using the account and over looked the charge) anyway, they got a third-party debt collect involved and that cost an additional £10.

In future use recorded mail on all transaction, include the cost in your P&P so you don’t lose out again.

Sorry for the bad news.
