How can I ask for charity to help someone who needs home repairs?

Postby fychan97 » Tue Jul 24, 2012 3:31 pm

I know an elderly person who is visually impaired, hard of hearing, a diabetic and an amputee on a small fixed income. The house and yard is extremely run down and is in need of many repairs. I would like to know how I can raise money to help fix up the home and yard in order to prevent personal injury and provide a safe and comfortable environment and provide piece of mind so there is no more worry of injury or worse. I would also like to know if I raise money for this person how does it work with taxes or any legal issues. Thanks!

You don't need to raise money.
You need to call Social Service and ask for the Contact info for the Office of the Aging. That program has assistance for the elderly including donated supplies and volunteers to do the work.
If you raise money then YOU must pay Federal and State Income taxes. It is treated as regular income on YOUR tax return
