How do I deal with my evil mother-in-law?

I am a nineteen year old girl. I grew up in a middle-class family and I am educated, but my family is suffering financial problems and so I married a wealthy twenty year-old heir to save my family from bankruptcy. He married me to silence the rumours amongst his circle that he is gay (he isn't though). Well anyway, my mother-in-law is a snooty nightmare who hates me. She calls me a gold digger and has a stern look on her far everytime she looks at me. In one heated argument she even ended up slapping me. She calls me names like "leech", "uneducated", "scum" and he worst choice her son had ever made. Originally we decided to divorce after his gay rumours had calmed down and once my family was stable again financially but now we are starting to fall for each other, what shall I do? We live with her!

Dnt take this the wrong way, but you did say that you married the guy because he is wealthy so technically mom-in-law is right about the gold digger part although she doesnt have to use that term. It is comPleteley rude. But personally, I think that in a situation like that it is up to the mom in laws child (ur husband) to take care of that. He shouldnt allow you to be disrespected regardless of who its oming from. Yes you have to live by her rules because its her home but he shouldnt allow her to disrespect you. Disrespect is one thing i will not tolerate no matter how mich she doesnt like you. Go talk to ur hubby and explain to him that he needs to step in before its too late

I had the same problem with my (now ex mother in law) my marraige ended because of her. She was so jelous of her sons relationship with me and he was a mummy's boy and did nothing to stand up to her. Im sorry to say this but The old bat won't change

You just said it all you married to get your family out of financial troubles does,it ring a bell as to why your MIL is calling you names like Gold Digger Ding Ding!Its a marriage of convience and it will end up in divorce court.You married for money and he married because he is being labeled Gay person.

she sounds horrible and im so sorry to hear this horrible situation
i thought my ex mother in law was bad!
i lived with her in her home with my ex hubs and toddler son...
she would always criticise me and always had a nasty look on her face but never used physical abuse or use insults as bad as these...
if your falling for eachother and want to stay together then you both need to sit her down and tell her that your in love and that her son and you are both mature adults that can make decisions yourselves and that even though you are in her house she needs to BUTT out and mind her own because its your relationship not hers...
if you are not going to stay together then get the hell out whilst you can! it will hurt but if shes really upsetting you...
finally... if your still angry about the phsyical behaviour then maybe even speak to a police officer and report assault as someone of that age should not be hitting someone else and she could be charged for it
she does sound horrible and i feel so sorry for you
another suggestion is that if you and your hubs are in love move in with your folks or something... or maybe a bedsit anywhere to get away from her!!!!!!! she sounds hideous
also if he is wealthy then he should be able to afford a crap place to stay whilst you sort your issues (in all areas) out...
