How should I pay for school?

Postby wahchintonka48 » Wed Jul 11, 2012 7:22 pm

I'm still new to all of this. I'm entering my second semester at Liberty University. For the 2012-13 school year, I have 15k between Federal Pell Grants, and Stafford Loans that I can pay for school with.

So, the Stafford loan for the fall semester is like $3,000. The pell grants is another $3,500. I know I don't have to pay back the pell grant, but I may have to pay back the stafford loans. I'm studying criminal justice at Liberty University, and I have heard that if I work in law enforcement, the government will pay my stafford loans.

So, should I use up all of my stafford loan, the pay the rest will pell grants? That way I will get more money in my pocket to save for a vehicle, and pay off my laptop.

You can NOT use federal financial aid to buy a vehicle.

Read excerpt from letter below....

"Thank you for your inquiry about federal student aid.
The U.S. Department of Education's major financial aid programs help an eligible student meet his or her cost of attendance (COA) at an eligible school. The COA includes the actual or average tuition and required fees, as well as allowances for room and board (or living expenses for students) .....
The Department DOES NOT consider the purchase of a motor vehicle as a legitimate education expense; this has been the Department's long standing policy.
We hope this information is helpful."
