How to find IP address.?

Postby nicolas » Sat Mar 17, 2012 1:01 pm

I need to find my computer's IPv4 IP address, Subnet mask, and Gateway along with DHCP Server’s IP address and IPv4 DNS Server’s IP addresses for homework.

I went to Start>My Network Places>Network Connection then I right clicked Local Area Connections and selected properties. The IP address, Subnet, and Gateway are all grey with no numbers and "Obtain an IP Address Automatically" is selected.

Is there a place I can find all of this, I need a screen shot of it.

I also have to find the card’s physical (MAC) address?

By the way my computer is Windows XP if that helps to explain things.

How to find IP address.?

Postby tim » Sat Mar 17, 2012 1:19 pm

This should be quite simple, Try these steps to help :
1) Goto Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt / CMD.
2) When the CMD opens (a black box) type "IPConfig" in it and press enter

Once done, a load of information will appear. Scroll to the top and all the info you shall need is there.

Hope this helps :)

Open the "Start" menu and click the "Control Panel" link. Click the "Network and Internet" section.
2

Click on "Network and Sharing Center." Click the "View status" link in the "Connection" section.
3

Click "Details" to see more information. In most cases, your IP address is listed next to "IPV4 IP Address." If your network uses version 6, it will be listed next to "IPV6 IP Address."
