I am 19 years old and my mom said I can't go on vacation with a friend and her family...?

Postby colfre » Thu Apr 26, 2012 11:48 am

I am 19 years old. I am a college student. My mom says I can't go and my dad says I can, I have always followed my parents rules and never been in trouble with the law. I am not a party girl. My friend invited me to the annual bike run in laughlin nv with her and her family. My parents have never met her or family. My parents know the area and we even have a vacation house out there. They do not really want me to go. I would be the one paying for all the expenses and such. What do you guys think of this??

I think you should introduce them, but you are an adult so it's your decision

You're of age. If you want to go then go. You're a legal adult.

If you want to respect your mom, try reasoning with her. If she still won't budge just politely explain to her that it's your decision, not hers.

Good luck.

At 19 ; you have to cut the umbilical cord for good

I mean ; when in your life you would be able to take your own decision ? At 30 ;;; 40

Being a adult and taking our responsibility is not disrespecting our parents

When your mother was 19 ;; did she ask permission to her mother for everything ?

You are free to go as you are major. But parents may have good reasons and you have to respect them or their words also.

You didn't explain your parents objections to this trip. Does money come into play? You say you're paying for "all the expenses and such," but where are you living? Perhaps they're thinking it's an irresponsible expense for someone who has an education to pay for, or is it perhaps an education they're paying for.

Or is it the nature of the event itself that they object to? Big biker rallies aren't exactly known as bastions of high moral ground. If you're not, as you say, a party girl, I'm actually having a little trouble seeing what the appeal of that trip might be. Going to this when you don't like partying is a little like going to Mardi Gras when you don't like partying. What's the point?

In any case, you're 19, you can do what you want, but they're also no longer under any obligation to support you in doing what you want. You get to make your own choices, but you have to do it on your own dime.
