Knee surgery or what? (sports injury)?

Postby iomar » Sat Jul 14, 2012 1:00 pm

GC got the right idea. Most of the time, X-Ray won't show anything wrong because the bone is fine and nothing broken. But, everything else in the knee could be wrong and that's why a MRI is needed.

A MRI is the best choice test to see what is the problem. It showed so much more than bone problem. They are way more expansive than a X-Ray too, but that's okay as they show way more things that can be wrong. Then, a professional doc will tell you what wrong and what you need to do.

Knee surgery or what? (sports injury)?

Sorry to hear about your knee, Sojourn.
As the others have said, x-rays will only show damage to the bones not the soft tissue or ligaments. I highly, highly recommend you go to an orthopedist (bone and joint doctor). Even it's for a second opinion. Your orthopedist will ask what happened and what symptoms you're experiencing. He may do some hands on tests that just involve bending your knee and moving your leg around. You most likely will be sent for an MRI. An MRI is what you need. It will show damage to the tissues and ligaments. I wouldn't jump into surgery without getting an MRI.
Go see an orthopedist and have the MRI so you can get the results and see what's wrong.
Good luck! I hope it's not serious and you get back good results!
